In a recent interview with The Tribune, Sule Lamido, a former Governor of Jigawa State and ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs, has made significant allegations about the internal dynamics of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Lamido claims that certain members of the PDP are covertly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Lamido, the PDP is grappling with internal sabotage, with some party members reportedly acting as “moles” for the ruling APC. He criticized the current state of the party, expressing concerns over its internal discord and the challenge of rebuilding its position as a major political force in Nigeria.

Lamido specifically mentioned the case of some party members, including former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, who have allegedly expressed support for Tinubu’s future political aspirations. He lamented that such actions undermine the PDP’s unity and effectiveness.

Reflecting on Tinubu’s political ascent, Lamido acknowledged the President’s formidable political maneuvering, citing his success in overcoming opposition within his own party and beyond. He suggested that Tinubu’s dominance in Nigerian politics makes it challenging for the PDP to regain power.

Further, Lamido criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari’s reluctance to support Tinubu, alleging that Buhari preferred other candidates but failed to secure their support. Lamido also argued that Tinubu’s success in becoming President was not influenced by Buhari’s endorsement but rather by his own strategic prowess.

In discussing the broader issues facing the PDP, Lamido pointed out that the challenges within the party are reflective of broader national issues. He contended that similar problems are evident across Nigerian institutions, attributing them to the general attitudes and behaviors prevalent in Nigerian society.
