“After promising her a job, she travelled to Akamkpa with her two young sons, aged five and three,” he explained.

“Upon arriving in Akamkpa on December 6, the couple took her and her children to Aba in Abia State, where she was separated from them.”

When Godday realized she could not find her children, she managed to return to Akamkpa, located the suspects’ home, and alerted the police, Grimah noted.

The investigation revealed that the suspects were engaged in child abduction and trafficking. They had previously sold a six-year-old for 800,000 Naira and intended to sell Godday’s children for 2.4 million Naira.

The police commissioner condemned child abduction and trafficking as heinous crimes against humanity that should not be tolerated in any society.

Throughout the year, the police command charged 399 cases in court, successfully prosecuted 19, and secured 15 convictions.

“Four cases were discharged but not acquitted, two are under appeal, 376 are awaiting trial, and 48 have been sent to the director of public prosecution for advice,” he added.

In statements to the press, Akpan admitted to luring Godday to Akamkpa with the intention of selling her children, asserting, “This is our first involvement in child abduction.”
