Police Eliminate 12 Bandits in Benue State Clash, Officer Dies

The Benue State Police Command reported that the confrontation occurred on March 19, when the police encountered an ambush by the bandits while on a raid following instructions from Commissioner of Police Steve Yabanet to intensify security efforts against criminal gangs.

The police responded with superior firepower, subduing the gang. While 12 bandits were confirmed dead, others managed to escape with gunshot wounds. Items recovered from the bandits included three AK-47 rifles, six rounds of live ammunition, camouflage uniforms, and various charms.

Unfortunately, during the operation, Insp. Anyiatse was fatally wounded and later died in the hospital. The police expressed condolences to his family and praised the bravery of the officers involved in the operation.

In other operations around Daudu and Makurdi, several firearms were seized, and numerous suspects connected to robbery and cult activities were apprehended.
