Police Release Update On Officer Who Fatally Sh*t Man In Delta State

According to Ireporter Online, the Delta State Police Command has confirmed that the Assistant Superintendent of Police who allegedly shot and killed a suspect in Effurun will face murder charges as investigations continue into the incident.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, stating that the officer, identified as ASP Nuhu Usman, alongside members of his team, has been transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary and further administrative actions.

The incident, which has sparked public outrage following the circulation of a viral video, reportedly involved the shooting of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi, who had been arrested over an alleged parcel containing a pistol and ammunition.

Edafe described the incident as deeply troubling and difficult to explain, noting that the officer’s conduct was a clear violation of police operational guidelines. He stressed that there was no justification for the action, adding that the command was treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

According to him, the incident occurred on April 26, 2026, after operatives from the Effurun Area Command received intelligence that the suspect had been apprehended while allegedly attempting to transport a parcel suspected to contain a Beretta pistol and four rounds of live ammunition. The suspect was said to have already been restrained by members of a motor park before police arrival.

He explained that a surveillance team was deployed to take custody of the suspect, but questioned the circumstances under which the shooting occurred, especially as the suspect was reportedly already subdued and posed no threat at the time.

Edafe further confirmed that the entire five-man police team involved in the operation has also been moved to the Force Headquarters for questioning, adding that their failure to intervene during the incident would be part of the ongoing investigation.

He maintained that the Nigeria Police Force does not condone misconduct among its officers and assured that ASP Usman will be prosecuted if found culpable, emphasizing that every suspect is entitled to the right to life under the law.

The police spokesperson reiterated that the Force remains committed to accountability, adding that no officer has the authority to unlawfully take a life while performing official duties.
