Presidency Tells ADC ‘Just Keep Breaking The Rules’ After Party Sets Congress Dates
The presidency has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of acting unlawfully following the party’s decision to proceed with its national convention despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) derecognising its leadership.
According to Ireporter Online, ADC’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced on Friday that the party’s National Congress would go ahead as scheduled. The congress is set to run from April 7 to 14, 2026, beginning with the screening of aspirants and concluding with the national convention.
In the notice, Abdullahi stated, “This is to notify all party members that, despite INEC’s illegal actions, the African Democratic Congress will continue with its congresses as scheduled, having duly informed INEC through letters dated February 27 and March 28, 2026.” The schedule includes aspirant screening on April 7, appeals on April 8, local congresses on April 9, state congresses on April 11, and the national convention on April 14.
Reacting to the announcement on social media, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, cautioned that the ADC’s disregard for legal processes could have consequences. Onanuga wrote on X, “Just continue your illegality, the lawless ADC. The dog that wants to get lost in the forest will ignore the hunter’s whistle.”
