President Tinubu Appoints New Director General for Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Director General of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

With over 15 years of experience in Nigeria’s power sector, Dr. Ramat brings expertise in regulatory governance, energy reform, and digital integration. His background spans both public and private sectors, where he has led transformational reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, sustainability, and innovation.

Dr. Ramat holds a PhD in Strategic Management, an M.Tech in Electronics & Telecommunications, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He has been instrumental in initiatives such as smart grid deployment, blockchain-based governance, and smart metering systems.

Before his appointment, he served as Executive Chairman of Ungogo LGA, where he introduced Nigeria’s first blockchain-powered e-identity platform and tripled local revenue. As former Managing Director of KASMA, he championed major energy efficiency projects, including the retrofitting of public lighting systems and licensing of independent power projects.

In the private sector, through his firm AG Ramat Global Electrical/Electronics Ltd, he has provided strategic advisory services on tariff structures and utility compliance frameworks.

President Tinubu’s choice underscores a continued focus on technical competence and reform-driven leadership in critical regulatory institutions.
