President Tinubu Condemns Plateau Killings, Urges Gov. Mutfwang To Address Root Causes

The brutal attack on the Zike Kimakpa community in Kwall District of Irigwe Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area, occurred late on Sunday night, claiming at least 45 lives and leaving many others injured. The community is left in a state of grief and devastation.

In a statement released to the press, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, condemned the violence and offered his condolences to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the Plateau State government, and the people of the state. He also urged the Governor to take decisive action to resolve the crisis and establish lasting peace.

The statement read: “In calling for harmony among the people of Plateau State, President Tinubu underscores the importance of love and unity, transcending religious and ethnic divisions. He calls on community, spiritual, and political leaders both within and outside the state to come together and end the cycle of retaliatory violence that has made life unbearable for affected communities.”

“The ongoing conflict between Plateau’s communities, driven by misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups, must come to an end,” President Tinubu said. “I have directed security agencies to investigate this crisis thoroughly and bring those responsible for these violent acts to justice. We cannot allow this devastation and endless attacks to continue. It must stop now.”

“Beyond addressing the criminal elements behind these killings, political leadership in Plateau, led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, must confront the root causes of this long-standing issue. These problems have plagued us for over two decades, and we can no longer ignore them. It’s time to tackle them fairly and find a lasting solution. I have had ongoing discussions with the Governor and provided suggestions for achieving lasting peace.”
