Prince Malik Afegbua: Abubakar Momoh Mourns A Close Friend And Political Leader
Today is a sad and devastating moment in the political history of Edo North as we lost our close friend, foremost leader a gentleman par excellence and a compatriot who has played prominent roles in the politics of Edo North , Edo state and Nigeria in general, Prince Malik Afegbua – alias “Eko ne dano idane” as I used to call him .
Though his passing on , has clearly reminded us of the ephemerality of life, we never anticipated that his journey would be cut short at this critical moment of our political. trajectory when his political wisdom and expertise would b needed for a successful electioneering.
Prince Malik has remained steadfast in the political firmament of Edo state right from the second Republic when he contested election as the gubernatorial running mate of NPP in the then Bendel state.
At the dawn of the current political dispensation in 1998, he played active role in the G34 struggle to pressurise the military to quit power. His active involvement then fetched him a prominent role in the activities of PDP as the new political era commenced in 1999.
When it became obvious that the ruling PDP in Edo state was going to deny Edo North the governorship of the state in 2007, Prince Malik along with Shagady Usman and my humble self and a host of others did not hesitate to team up forces with comrade Adams Oshiomole who then indicated interest to pursue gubernatorial aspiration under the auspices of ACN and with the support of God, that struggle produced the first Edo North executive governor of Edo state. Prince Malik was fiercely loyal to constituted authority.
Infact, his absence will be greatly felt within the political corridor. As we mourn his passing, we pray that God almighty grant the entire Afegbua family and all of us the fortitude to bear the huge loss.
May his soul rest in peace and may God grant him paradise as his final abode -amen.
Adieu “Eko ne dano idane”
signed.
