Professionalism: A Key Driver For Outstanding Entrepreneurship
According to Ireporter Online, Britain-based entrepreneurship educator and Technology and Business Development Manager, Dr. Saheed Gbadegeshin, has emphasized the critical role of professionalism in business. He described professionalism as the factor that distinguishes a temporary service provider from a strategic partner, noting that it builds confidence, mitigates risk, strengthens relationships, and drives superior outcomes.
Dr. Gbadegeshin highlighted that professionalism goes beyond skills to include ethics. He explained that while clients may sometimes push for decisions that deliver short-term gains but risk long-term harm—such as reducing training budgets or overlooking operational risks—professionalism requires honesty, evidence-backed advice, and better alternatives, rather than simply giving clients what they want to hear.
Sharing his experience, Dr. Gbadegeshin recounted supporting a client undergoing major restructuring involving redundancies and sensitive financial information. He maintained strict confidentiality and carefully coordinated stakeholders, which helped leaders feel secure in sharing critical constraints. This, he noted, improved the quality of solutions and demonstrated that professionalism is often the unseen key to effective consultancy outcomes.
He further stressed the importance of reliability, recalling a project where an unexpected deadline change required him to communicate a revised plan while protecting quality. By delivering structured, accurate, and executive-ready materials under pressure, he impressed the client not only with the output but also with his calm and organized approach.
Dr. Gbadegeshin also underscored respectful communication as an essential aspect of professionalism. Entrepreneurs often navigate competing organizational priorities, and active listening, fair summarization of viewpoints, and constructive challenge of assumptions—combined with punctuality, thorough preparation, documentation, and follow-ups—can prevent misunderstandings and create psychological safety in high-stakes environments.
