RCCG Elder Clarifies Funding Of Trinity Towers, Refutes Sole Sponsorship Claims
Quincy Olasumbo Ayodele, an elder at the City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has debunked claims that the late chairman of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe, solely financed the construction of the Trinity Towers.
Collective Contribution, Not Sole Sponsorship
During an interview with On-Air Personality Daddy Freeze on Monday night, Ayodele emphasized that the impressive structure was built through the combined efforts of church members, including Wigwe….READ MORE….
“Pastor Herbert Wigwe did not single-handedly build Trinity Towers. It was a product of the collective efforts of all members of the City of David Parish, including him,” she clarified.
Addressing the Controversy
Ayodele also addressed the controversy surrounding the 60th birthday celebration of Idowu Iluyomade’s wife, which occurred shortly after Wigwe’s tragic death. She admitted to being initially unaware of the backlash, as she was out of the country at the time.
“We were all devastated when we heard about our brother’s passing. I wasn’t in the country at the time, so when I heard about the birthday party, I thought maybe Mummy (Iluyomade’s wife) finally gave her approval for it to go ahead. But the next day, I started reading reports from UK-based blogs, and I was shocked,” Ayodele recounted.
The Tragic Incident and Its Aftermath
Wigwe, his wife, and their son tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash on February 9, 2024. The news sent ripples through both the business and religious communities in Nigeria. However, mere days after the incident, Siju Iluyomade, wife of the then-pastor of the parish, hosted a lavish birthday celebration. The event sparked widespread criticism, ultimately resulting in the suspension of Pastor Iluyomade from the RCCG City of David Parish.
Intervention by RCCG Leadership
Following public outrage, RCCG’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, intervened. Ayodele revealed that Pastor Adeboye took steps to mitigate the situation by suspending Pastor Iluyomade and directing him to report to the Ebute Meta headquarters.
“Daddy Adeboye stepped in to calm tensions and placed Pastor Iluyomade on suspension, directing him to report to Ebute Meta. After he served his three-month suspension, a letter was issued, barring him from returning to City of David,” she explained.
While other pastors were reassigned, the directive explicitly stated that Pastor Iluyomade must not resume duties at the City of David Parish.
