Real Reason FEC Has Not Reconvened

A senior government official announced yesterday that a ministerial retreat is currently in progress, aimed at streamlining government programs and aligning policies.

The official emphasized that this retreat will not be a mere talk-show, but rather a substantial overhaul of public policy for members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

This retreat will play a pivotal role in shaping the government’s programs and policies. Ministers will be tasked with their implementation, complete with specific deadlines and rigorous monitoring.

In preparation for the retreat, ministers have been acquainting themselves with their respective ministries to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current situations.

Furthermore, the ministers are expected to align themselves with the policy outlines of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

The source said: “The retreat has become imperative to streamline the promises being made by the ministers who were put on their toes to deliver on government programmes.

“Some of the ministers have been making tough promises out of enthusiasm. But timelines must be attached to these promises, not only to ensure they are realistic, but also attainable.”

It has been reported that the government has opted for Monday as the designated day for FEC meetings, marking a departure from the practice in previous administrations.

During the tenure of Muhammadu Buhari, regular FEC meetings were typically convened on Wednesdays.

“In this dispensation, it was learnt that FEC will meet on Monday’s and might not be weekly to enable the ministers time to deliver on the assignments before them”, the official said.

On August 21, forty-five ministers were sworn in, and they convened their inaugural FEC meeting on August 28.

At the forthcoming cabinet meeting, three additional ministers-designate – Balarabe Lawal for the Ministry of Environment, Jamila Bio Ibrahim for the Ministry of Youth, and Ayodele Olawande for the Ministry of Youth – will join the cabinet, bringing the total number of ministers to 48.
