According to Ireporter, The Deputy Commander General of the Board, Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, confirmed the arrests to journalists in Kano.
He stated that Hisbah officers apprehended the individuals during routine patrols across various parts of the Kano metropolis.
In addition, the board reportedly detained around 60 individuals for sporting “indecent haircuts,” which violate Islamic law and local cultural norms.
Furthermore, commercial tricycle (keke napep) drivers were also arrested for allegedly carrying both male and female passengers in the same vehicle, a practice deemed unacceptable by Hisbah authorities.
The board has vowed to continue its patrols to enforce strict adherence to Sharia law throughout Ramadan.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Katsina State Government, under Governor Dikko Umar Radda, has ordered the closure of all primary, secondary, and tertiary schools in the state for the Ramadan period.
The Katsina Hisbah Board has also warned private schools against violating the directive, emphasizing that extra lessons will not be allowed during the fasting period.
“All private schools are required to close for Ramadan to enable students to fully observe the holy month. Non-compliance will not be tolerated,” the board stated.
Authorities have urged full cooperation with these directives, stressing that all measures are aimed at upholding religious obligations and cultural values during Ramadan.
