Reps Express Anger As Customs, Immigration Chiefs Skip Key Investigation Hearing

project and its connection to the Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) and Webb Fontaine, was disrupted by the absence of the Comptroller General of Customs, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, and other essential stakeholders.

The committee, referencing Section 88 of the Nigerian Constitution, reminded the absent officials of their duty to appear for parliamentary investigations. The session sought to address issues surrounding border security, illegal migration, and technological advancements in customs operations.

While the Minister of Interior was noted to be out of the country, no explanation was offered for the absence of the Customs and Immigration leaders. Lawmakers, including Olumide Osoba and Awaji-Inombek Abiante, criticized the snub, calling for consequences if such non-compliance persists.

Committee Chairman Leke Abejide stressed the importance of the investigation, which focuses on customs modernization, revenue generation, and national security. The session was postponed, with plans to reconvene after the passage of the national budget.
