Oloruntoyosi Thomas, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, addressed the audience by reaffirming the Kwara State Government’s commitment to inclusive policies. She revealed that half of all agricultural initiatives in the state are specifically dedicated to women, youths, and persons with disabilities, recognizing the crucial role these groups play in driving economic transformation.

“Women and youths are central to every programme we design, as their contributions are pivotal to our economic growth,” Thomas stated, echoing the state’s focus on inclusivity.

Nafisat Buge, the Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, also encouraged participants to view agriculture not as a menial task, but as a dignified and lucrative business. “Agriculture is not dirty or shameful; it is a rewarding enterprise that makes a significant contribution to our economy,” she urged attendees to see the sector’s potential.

Jafar Abubakar, the Director-General of the Nigeria Agricultural Business for Women and Youth Farmers Entrepreneurs (NABG), highlighted the transformative impact of integrating technology into agriculture. He stressed that women, who contribute significantly to Nigeria’s GDP, can achieve even greater economic empowerment through innovative agricultural practices.

Abubakar praised Kwara’s government for its proactive approach in involving youth in agricultural businesses, emphasizing that such policies would reduce unemployment, foster food security, and drive broader economic transformation.

A standout moment of the conference was the presentation by Abdulafeez Alao, a local entrepreneur from Kwara. Alao introduced his innovative product, Eedu-Ramoni, an eco-friendly briquette made from farm waste that provides a sustainable alternative to wood-based charcoal, contributing to environmental conservation.

The conference concluded with a celebration of outstanding agricultural entrepreneurs who are excelling in various sectors, inspiring all attendees to explore the numerous opportunities within Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
