Ronaldo In Sh*ck Again As Gamba Osaka Stun Al Nassr In AFC Champions League
According to Ireporter Online, Cristiano Ronaldo suffered another painful setback as Al Nassr were defeated 1-0 by Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League Two final on Saturday, compounding a difficult week for the Portuguese star.
The Saudi Pro League side entered the clash at the King Saud University Stadium as heavy favourites, buoyed by home support and aiming to become the first Saudi club to win the continent’s secondary club title. However, those expectations were quickly overturned in a disappointing night for the hosts.
Gamba Osaka struck the decisive blow in the 29th minute when Deniz Hummet latched onto a precise pass from Issam Jebali before calmly finishing from the edge of the box to silence the home crowd. Despite sustained pressure from Al Nassr in the second half, the Japanese side maintained a disciplined defensive shape to protect their narrow lead.
Al Nassr pushed relentlessly for an equaliser, but Ronaldo and his teammates were repeatedly denied by a resilient backline. The defeat means Ronaldo is still waiting for his first major trophy since joining the Saudi club in 2023, extending an already frustrating spell.
Head coach Jorge Jesus acknowledged his side’s slow start proved costly, admitting the opposition capitalised on their early dominance. He noted that although Al Nassr controlled large portions of the game after the opening half-hour, they failed to convert their chances while conceding from one of Gamba Osaka’s few opportunities.
The loss adds to a turbulent few days for Ronaldo, who was previously left devastated after Al Nassr surrendered a late lead in the Saudi Pro League title race, allowing rivals Al Hilal to draw level in dramatic fashion. Despite the setback, the veteran forward has urged focus ahead of the final league match, with Al Nassr still in contention for domestic glory.
Coach Jorge Jesus stressed that attention must now shift quickly to the league decider, insisting there is no time for disappointment as the team prepares for their final push for silverware.
