Rotimi Amaechi Stirs Social Media Fury With Controversial Remarks On Nigerian Votes
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is once again under the spotlight for his recent comments during an interview with Arise TV. Amaechi suggested that Nigerians deserve whatever they voted for, sparking outrage and criticism on social media…..CONTINUE READING
This isn’t the first time Amaechi has stirred controversy. In October 2023, a viral video showed him criticizing Nigerians for their perceived passivity and blamed citizens for politicians’ recklessness. Netizens lambasted him for seemingly undermining the importance of citizens’ voices and the credibility of elections.
In his latest interview, Amaechi’s remarks on Nigerians deserving their electoral choices have further fueled the anger of social media users. Many questioned if he was oblivious to the alleged irregularities in the February 25 Presidential elections, where claims of voter suppression and manipulation surfaced.
Social media users expressed frustration, with comments like “Our votes don’t count,” and “The presidency is turn by turn and selection, not by voting.” Some accused Amaechi of being out of touch with the realities faced by Nigerians and urged him to refrain from commenting on the struggles of the masses.
Adeola Ibrahim Fagbemi pointed out that the last general election saw claims of vote manipulation, stating, “Good people of Nigeria voted against the APC government, but they gate-crashed into power by ‘stealing it, grabbing it, and running away with it; also assisted by our judiciary.”
Nwoye Chidiebele echoed the sentiment, stating, “This man dey m—t, as if he doesn’t know what’s going on in Naija. Our votes don’t count; anybody who wants to be president must become it by force.”
As social media continues to buzz with discontent over Amaechi’s remarks, it remains to be seen how the former governor’s comments will impact public perception and discussions on the state of democracy in Nigeria.
