Rampant Burglaries Plague Ikorodu’s Ijede Community, Residents Living in Fear
In the heart of Ikorodu, Lagos, the community of Ijede is grappling with a surge in burglary cases, leaving residents living in constant fear. Sundays, once a day of religious solace, have turned into a nightmare as burglars take advantage of churchgoers, breaking into homes during service…..CONTINUE READING
A resident’s attempt to attend a Church Service was met with horror when he returned to find his roof broken and a burglar in his house.
A dramatic chase ensued as the homeowner, along with neighbors, pursued the intruder through bush paths reminiscent of a football match, with the burglar displaying evasive maneuvers like Okocha. Despite their efforts, the burglar managed to escape temporarily.
However, a twist in the tale occurred when the seemingly triumphant burglar emerged from hiding, only to be apprehended by someone with experience. The ensuing community justice unfolded predictably, with the thief facing a beating before being handed over to the police.
But the story doesn’t end there – much to the dismay of the community. The freed burglar, after providing a statement, was allegedly placed under the bizarre condition that the homeowner must not only keep reporting to the police station but also provide food for the very burglar who violated his home. The perplexing situation has left residents questioning the efficacy of the legal system.
The audacity of the thieves in Ijede has escalated, with a recent incident involving the looting of a newly constructed building, causing distress to a septuagenarian managing the property for a client.
The resilient victim, in a fit of frustration, chased two individuals he suspected to be involved, highlighting the desperation of the community to secure its premises.
Completed but uninhabited buildings face the wrath of burglars who strip them of accessories, while even construction materials like sand, concrete, and blocks are not spared.
The relentless spree extends to looting shops, with a recent focus on sewing machines. Additionally, tricycles and motorcycles fall prey to thieves who skillfully scale fences at night, leaving residents grappling with the menace without respite. The once vibrant community now lives in fear, haunted by the audacious operations of these bold burglars.
