Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will emerge stronger after losing the Osun State governorship election to the Accord Party candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke.

According to Ireporter Online, Kalu made the remarks while reacting to the outcome of Saturday’s election, describing the result as an indication that democracy was at work.

The former Abia State governor sympathised with the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who finished second behind Adeleke, while congratulating the incumbent governor on securing another term in office.

Kalu said electoral contests are ultimately about the choice of the people and urged members of the ruling party to view the defeat as an opportunity to regroup and strengthen the party.

“What happened in Osun is democracy in play. Elections are about the choice of the people, and as a party, we should be able to come back stronger,” he said.

Despite the APC’s defeat in Osun, Kalu expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s prospects in the state ahead of the 2027 general election.

He maintained that Tinubu’s chances remain bright, arguing that the President could attract support from political stakeholders across different platforms, including members of the APC and Accord Party.

Kalu also commended former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for his contributions to the development of the state.

The senator stressed that the outcome of the Osun governorship election should not be interpreted as a major setback for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

He urged APC members and supporters to remain committed, learn from the election and work towards strengthening the party ahead of future electoral contests.
