Rufai Oseni Raises Alarm Over Peter Obi’s Safety

According to Ireporter Online, Oseni made the appeal while reacting to a decision by the Federal High Court in Abuja to entertain a suit seeking an order compelling President Bola Tinubu to provide maximum security for the former Anambra State governor.

Speaking during Arise Television’s Morning Show, Oseni stressed that Nigeria must not witness any incident that could threaten Obi’s safety, noting that the unresolved deaths of prominent politicians in the country remain painful reminders of the need to safeguard political figures.

He maintained that Obi should remain safe and available to participate in the 2027 presidential election, adding that there should be no reports of any mysterious accident or unexplained incident involving the opposition candidate.

The call comes months after Obi and a leading figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Oyegun, reportedly escaped an attack by armed hoodlums in Benin City, Edo State. The attackers allegedly opened fire on Obi, Oyegun and members of the Obidient Movement as they travelled from the ADC secretariat to Oyegun’s residence.

Meanwhile, Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has reiterated his criticism of Obi’s presidential ambition. Speaking during an interview on TVC, the former Edo State governor argued that Obi lacks the long-term vision required to govern Nigeria effectively.

Oshiomhole described the NDC candidate as someone whose background as a trader encourages short-term planning rather than strategic national development. He also questioned Obi’s political consistency, recalling his departure from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) after previously pledging loyalty to the party in honour of the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

The senator further maintained that Obi’s political decisions over the years reflected inconsistency, insisting that the former Anambra governor does not possess the long-term outlook needed for the nation’s leadership.
