Sabotage Will Be Punished – Lokpobiri Threatens Oil Community Vandals
Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has issued a stern warning that any attacks on the country’s oil pipelines will be met with firm and decisive action……..READ MORE
The Minister stated that security agencies have been mobilized to track down and apprehend those responsible for sabotaging the nation’s oil infrastructure.
Lokpobiri made this statement during his visit to the site of the damaged 18-inch Tepidaba Brass-Oando pipeline in Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, on Saturday. He emphasized that any assault on oil facilities is unacceptable and must be punished severely, as it goes beyond just economic consequences—it threatens the peace and stability of the region.
He explained that the pipeline, a crucial part of the national oil supply, is vital to the country’s economic health, and the damage caused by attacks results in significant revenue losses. The Minister also reminded the host communities that they are stakeholders entitled to 3% of the revenue generated from crude oil sales. He urged them to protect the pipelines, as any disruption directly impacts their earnings and the region’s development.
“The protection of oil facilities is not just a duty; it’s in your best interest,” Lokpobiri concluded, calling for greater cooperation between the host communities and security agencies to safeguard both the region’s prosperity and its economic benefits.
