During the inaugural National Police Day celebrations on Monday, held at Eagles Square in Abuja, Tinubu declared that his administration is focused on strengthening the police force to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu emphasized the importance of honoring the police and recognizing their sacrifices. He announced the institutionalization of April 7 as National Police Day, a day to commemorate fallen heroes and acknowledge the continuous dedication of police personnel.

 

The President pledged significant investments to improve police welfare and resources. He stated, “Our vision for a secure Nigeria begins with ensuring that the police are well-equipped, well-trained, and well-motivated.” He assured that these initiatives would include better housing, healthcare, quality education for officers’ children, and upgraded technology to fight crime. Additionally, he committed to adjusting police salaries and benefits to reflect their vital role in safeguarding the nation.

Tinubu highlighted the indispensable role of the police as the first line of defense in maintaining law and order, stressing that their work is vital for the country’s democracy and the safety of citizens. He added, “National Police Day is not just a date; it’s a symbol of our respect and partnership with the police.”

 

The President also praised the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and his team for their efforts in implementing reforms aligned with the administration’s goals.

Inspector-General Egbetokun noted that the day serves as an opportunity to remember fallen heroes and recognize the police’s excellence, professionalism, and respect for human rights in their operations.
