According to Ireporter Online, seasoned political analyst and Arise Television’s Director of News and Politics Editor, Sumner Sambo, has expressed strong doubt over the chances of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, securing the presidential ticket of the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on a live programme, Sambo suggested that Amaechi’s recent political remarks were more of a calculated distraction than a genuine pathway to the presidency. He alleged that the ADC’s real strategy is to keep the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on edge and disrupt its campaign coordination.

Sambo noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s long-standing reputation as a master political tactician would be put to the test in the coming elections. However, he maintained that Tinubu’s entrenched influence within the APC and his formidable election strategies would make it extremely difficult for any opposition figure, including Amaechi, to dislodge him.

He further observed that ADC leaders seem to be deliberately keeping their presidential flag bearer choice unclear, adopting political “chess moves” designed to confuse Tinubu’s camp before the polls. While acknowledging Amaechi’s past role as Director General of the Buhari/Osinbajo presidential campaigns in 2014 and 2019, Sambo insisted that challenging Tinubu would be an uphill battle.
