Saudi Arabia Restores Hearing For 30 Nigerian Children In Life-Changing Programme

According to Ireporter Online, thirty Nigerian children have regained their hearing through a specialised cochlear-implant and hearing-rehabilitation programme sponsored by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The initiative began on Tuesday at the National Hospital in Abuja, targeting children with severe hearing loss.

Funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), each procedure, valued between $20,000 and $25,000, provided comprehensive care encompassing diagnosis, surgery, therapy, and speech rehabilitation.

Saad bin Fahd Al-Marri, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Saudi Embassy in Nigeria, stated that the programme underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and enhancing health systems in partner nations. He added that the project is part of KSRelief’s ongoing humanitarian efforts in Nigeria and across Africa, which include medical interventions, disease-control programmes, and broader relief initiatives.

Highlighting the impact of the programme, Mrs. Oluchi Olanipekun, whose five-year-old daughter underwent surgery, described the intervention as life-changing, restoring her child’s ability to hear after years of silence. Another parent, Ismail Ahmed, commended Saudi Arabia for providing his daughter with the gift of hearing and urged both public and private organisations to offer similar support to families unable to afford such specialised treatment.

The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader commitment, under King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to advancing global health initiatives and assisting underserved communities worldwide.
