Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media, explained that despite the President’s submission of a new nominee for the position, the Senate had initially exercised patience and allowed Umar the benefit of the doubt.

However, they were compelled to act when it became apparent that Umar had turned the Code of Conduct Tribunal into a “Code of Misconduct Tribunal.”

Adaramodu emphasized that the Senate’s decision was to demonstrate that officials appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate must serve the interests of Nigerians, and any failure to do so can lead to removal under constitutional provisions.

He further affirmed that the allegations against Umar were thoroughly investigated before the final decision was made.
