Speaking at a community engagement session in Wukari Local Government Area, Para-Mallam urged stakeholders to join forces in addressing the longstanding issues of ethnic and religious discord.

The event saw the participation of leaders from various sectors, including religious, traditional, political, and women’s groups from Wukari, Takum, and Ussa LGAs.

“Taraba has faced significant challenges due to religious conflicts, ethnic tensions, and chieftaincy disputes. These are the key factors fueling unrest in the areas we visited,” he stated.

Para-Mallam highlighted the work of the Gideon-Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation through its Project Zamanlafiya Taraba, aimed at promoting understanding, collaboration, and peace among the diverse communities in the region.

He also announced the formation of Conflict Management Support Groups in Wukari, Takum, and Ussa LGAs, designed to boost advocacy efforts and promote peacebuilding locally. These groups will empower communities to take an active role in resolving conflicts at their roots.

“Our goal is to spread the message of peace, ensuring that the stakeholders in these regions lead efforts to build harmony across faiths and ethnic groups,” he explained.

Representatives from Christian and Muslim communities, youth organizations, women’s groups, and local political leaders all committed to working together to ensure lasting peace in Taraba South and the entire state.

Supporting this call for unity, Justina Achiken, leader of the Jukun Youth Cultural and Development Association, stressed the importance of including women in peacebuilding. She acknowledged that while women often suffer the most in times of conflict, they are also key players in the process of reconciliation and healing within communities.
