Sh*ck Exit! Ray Emodi Dumps Nollywood For Music Career
Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has announced his decision to step away from the film industry, citing traumatic experiences on movie sets and mounting family concerns as key reasons behind the move.
According to Ireporter Online, the actor disclosed his decision in a video shared on Instagram, where he recounted filming under perilous conditions, including working in a community troubled by violence where gunfire could be heard during production. He admitted that although he once believed he would never make such a decision, the realities he faced compelled him to reconsider his path.
Emodi explained that he had invested significant time and energy into his Nollywood career but had encountered situations that deeply unsettled him. He revealed that during one production in an undisclosed town, the cast and crew continued filming despite unrest in a neighbouring area, describing the environment as chaotic and unsafe.
The actor further noted that prioritising his mental well-being played a crucial role in his decision. He acknowledged that stepping away from acting has not been without consequences, particularly within his family. Emodi stated that his family, known for upholding strict values and safeguarding their reputation, does not fully support his new direction. Nevertheless, he expressed respect for their stance and emphasised that he remains committed to protecting the family name.
Reflecting on his journey in Nollywood, Emodi admitted he had experienced both remarkable highs and difficult moments on set. He described the challenge of declining film offers, noting that turning down opportunities was not easy but ultimately necessary for his personal growth and peace of mind.
The actor also announced that he is transitioning into music, a passion he says he has long nurtured. He revealed plans to release a music project and assured fans of quality content, inviting them to support him in this new chapter. Emodi reassured his supporters that while he may be leaving the screen, he is not abandoning his audience but simply expressing himself through a different creative medium.
Emodi, widely recognised for his presence on YouTube and in mainstream Nollywood productions, previously took a brief hiatus in 2023 due to anxiety-related challenges before making a return. At the height of his acting career, he featured alongside notable industry figures such as Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Uju Okoli, and Ruth Kadiri, among others.
