Sh*ck Move: Tinubu Directs All Political Appointees To Resign

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed all political appointees under his administration who intend to participate in the 2027 general elections to resign from their positions on or before March 31, 2026.

According to reports, the directive was disclosed on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in an official statement issued by Dewan Goshit, Head of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

The statement explained that the order is in line with the provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries ahead of the 2027 polls.

Further details indicated that the directive, conveyed in a circular endorsed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, applies to all categories of presidential appointees seeking elective office. These include ministers, ministers of state, special advisers, senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants, as well as directors-general, chief executive officers of federal government agencies, commissions, parastatals, and government-owned companies, among others.

The government emphasized that all affected officials are required to formally submit their resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on or before the stipulated deadline.
