Shehu Sani Accuses El-Rufai’s Government Of Leaving Debts For Poor While Enriching Their Own Children (Details)
Former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani has accused the previous administration under Nasir El-Rufai of leaving behind estates and malls for their children while saddling the children of the poor in Kaduna State with a mountain of debt. This accusation follows the adoption of a report by an ad-hoc committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which calls for an investigation into El-Rufai’s governance from May 2015 to May 2023.
The report claims that many loans obtained during El-Rufai’s administration were not used for their intended purposes, and due process was often not followed in securing them. El-Rufai responded, asserting that his administration was marked by integrity and competence, dismissing the report as a “politically motivated hatchet job.”
In a post on his X handle on Thursday, Sani expressed skepticism about El-Rufai’s claims of integrity and called for the recovery of stolen funds. He praised the Kaduna Assembly’s report and criticized the previous administration, saying, “Kaduna was a victim of two types of banditry: the one in our forests and the one in the Government House. They left behind estates and malls for their children and left a mountain of debt for the children of the poor.”
