the pervasive issue of budget padding.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Sani stated, “The only way to end budget padding is to create a law that bars lawmakers from altering budgets submitted by MDAs.”

However, Sani expressed doubts over the feasibility of such a law, adding, “But I’m not sure who will introduce this bill or how it could even get through the first reading.”

This comes ahead of an important meeting scheduled for January 7, 2025, where the Appropriations Committee will meet with key officials, including the Minister of Finance, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and the Director-General of the Budget Office, to address concerns raised during budget preparations.

The budget defense sessions between the Appropriations Sub-committees and relevant MDAs are also set to begin on January 8, 2025, running through January 15.

In a related development, Sani called for greater recognition of Nigeria’s freedom fighters during a visit to the graves of six deposed emirs in Lokoja, Kogi State. He emphasized the importance of honoring those who fought against colonial oppression, highlighting their sacrifices for Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“These emirs resisted British colonial rule and paid the ultimate price,” Sani said. “We must look back and honor those who fought for our country’s freedom. We owe them a debt of gratitude.”
