Abbas made this call during the launch of the Peace in the South East Project, initiated by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, in Bende, Abia State.
Emphasizing the economic prowess of the Southeast, Abbas acknowledged that despite the region’s strength, ongoing agitations have led to significant losses.
He stressed that achieving peace in the Southeast is synonymous with fostering the overall peace and progress of Nigeria.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Musa Krishi, Abbas expressed concern about the prevailing insecurity that continues to disrupt daily life and hamper socio-economic activities in a region renowned for its resourcefulness and economic enterprise.
Recalling the historical significance of the Eastern region between 1956 and 1965 as the fastest-growing economy in Africa and Asia, Abbas highlighted the South-East’s continued status as an economic powerhouse in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in trade and commerce.
He praised the entrepreneurial, resourceful, and peace-loving character of the Igbo people, recognizing their significant contributions to the Nigerian economy and various fields of human endeavor.
“The contributions of the Igbo are apparent not only in the economy but also in all fields of human endeavor, including literature, academia, the creative industry, and many more,” Abbas remarked.
