Super Falcons Set For UK Training Camp Ahead Of 2026 WAFCON Push
According to Ireporter Online, the Super Falcons of Nigeria are set to travel to the United Kingdom later this month for a short training camp as preparations intensify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The camp, scheduled to run from May 23 to 28, is expected to feature at least one friendly match, designed to keep the team active despite the absence of an official FIFA window. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is said to be driving the initiative to ensure the squad maintains competitive rhythm following a quiet March international window in which planned friendlies failed to hold.
Some key players are expected to miss the UK trip due to club commitments, but they are anticipated to rejoin the team during the next FIFA window between June 7 and 14. Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to use the camp to broaden his player selection pool and assess new talents as Nigeria continue their build-up to defending their continental title.
Speaking on the team’s preparations, Madugu noted the difficulty in securing international friendlies, stating that several nations have declined invitations to face the Super Falcons. He explained that while football associations may initially agree, some national team coaches often withdraw cooperation due to reluctance to play against Nigeria’s women’s side.
Nigeria remain the most successful team in African women’s football, having secured a record 10 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles, including their latest triumph in Morocco last year.
