NDLEA Seizes ₦5.8bn Worth Of Drugs, Arrests Three Persons With Disabilities Over Trafficking

The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that intelligence-led operations led officers to Akpaka Forest in Onitsha, Anambra State, where a 60-year-old suspect, Romanus Nwabara, was apprehended with 250 grams of skunk already packaged in retail sachets.

In a related operation in Ogbunike, also in Anambra State, NDLEA operatives arrested another suspect, Amos Kenneth, 25, reportedly living with a disability, in possession of various illicit substances including 160.3 grams of Tramadol in different dosages, Diazepam tablets, Exol-5, and additional quantities of skunk.

Similarly, in Kwara State, a patrol team along the Bode Saadu axis intercepted a commercial vehicle, leading to the arrest of Usman Salisu, another person with a disability, who was found with 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed inside a school bag.

In a separate major breakthrough in Lagos State, the NDLEA Special Operations Unit raided a mansion in Lekki Phase 1 reportedly used as a drug storage facility. The operation led to the recovery of 4,000 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis weighing 2,326 kilograms, with an estimated street value exceeding ₦5.8 billion. Authorities also recovered two Mercedes-Benz buses and packaging materials believed to be used for distribution.

In Kogi State, officers intercepted a white commuter J5 bus along the Okene-Lokoja highway heading to Abuja. A search of the vehicle uncovered 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766 kilograms, resulting in the arrest of three suspects identified as Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa.

Meanwhile, in Lagos, NDLEA operatives raided a skuchies production facility in the Ijora Badia area, arresting two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, while they were allegedly processing cannabis mixed with other substances. Authorities recovered 270 litres of already produced skuchies and additional quantities of Tramadol.

Commending the officers involved across the affected states, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised their coordinated efforts and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to balancing drug supply reduction with nationwide awareness campaigns, urging continued operational intensity across all commands.
