“Supporting Obi Means 8+4 Years For South” – North Uneasy, Says Aisha Yesufu
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, renowned socio-political activist Aisha Yesufu has disclosed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, privately assured her of his unwavering commitment to serving only one term if elected president.
Yesufu made this revelation on Sunday via her official X account, where she quote-tweeted a post by Obi reaffirming his intention to lead for a single term.
She emphasized that this has always been Obi’s consistent position, even during the 2022 campaign season, citing Nelson Mandela as the former governor’s leadership model.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, Yesufu recounted multiple discussions with Obi, during which he maintained that if a leader is truly determined to serve, one term is sufficient to make meaningful change.
Despite her own reservations, she acknowledged Obi’s clarity of purpose and repeated emphasis on transformative governance within a defined timeframe.
She further noted that a major concern among Northern political actors stems from the belief that backing Obi could extend Southern rule by another four years.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, this perception has reportedly influenced strategic calculations within the region regarding support for Southern presidential candidates in 2027.
Yesufu stated that she confronted Obi earlier this year to reconfirm his position for the sake of her credibility. According to her, he reaffirmed his pledge, insisting once again that his ambition remains a single-term presidency.
