Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the mob killing of Mr. Agege Ternenge, a commercial driver from Benue State, who was stoned to death in Obudu, Cross River State, on July 18.

The suspect, 35-year-old Adeshina Gilbert from Abonkib community in Obudu Urban, was apprehended by operatives of the Cross River State Police Command following an order by Commissioner of Police, Rashid Afegba.

Ternenge, a native of Mbanyam in Mbatyough Council Ward, Vandeikya Local Government Area, was attacked while delivering a waybill. A video of the assault, which circulated widely on social media, sparked public outrage nationwide.

Cross River Police spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, described the act as “barbaric and inhumane,” vowing that all involved will be brought to justice.
