Tension In Police Force As IGP Orders Emergency Overhaul Of Senior Officers

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a sweeping restructuring within the Nigeria Police Force, leading to the immediate redeployment of senior officers.

Reports indicate that around 467 senior officers have been implicated in age falsification and regulatory breaches. Some of these officers, including top-ranking officials, have been directed to appear before the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC).

Amid the restructuring, over 200 senior officers have reportedly refused to retire despite exceeding the legally mandated service period. Sources claim some officers have served for as long as 44 years, prompting concerns over internal resistance and policy enforcement.

The IGP’s directive has also led to a wave of new postings affecting several Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) nationwide, further solidifying the shake-up within the force.
