Tensions Rise As Fubara Presents Record N1.1 Trillion Budget To Rival Assembly Faction

The faction, under Oko-Jombo’s leadership, had previously received a letter from Fubara seeking permission to present the appropriation bill during the Assembly’s plenary session. This marks Fubara’s second budget presentation since taking office.

In 2023, he presented the 2024 state budget of N800 billion to a four-member Assembly faction led by Speaker Edison Ehie. This occurred amidst the unexpected demolition of parts of the State House of Assembly complex, which followed the defection of 27 Assembly members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection resulted from tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Subsequently, Speaker Ehie resigned, and Fubara appointed him as Chief of Staff.
