According to eyewitnesses, the crash was caused by heavy dust from the untarred road, which impaired the driver’s visibility. The source explained that Governor Alia had been in the local government area for nearly four days celebrating Christmas. On the day of the accident, he was heading to church when one of the vehicles in the convoy lost control due to the dust, swerving off the road and colliding with a motorcycle.

The Governor’s Technical Adviser on Media and Publicity, Solomon Iorpev, confirmed that the accident involved a vehicle from the Governor’s convoy. However, he clarified that the vehicle was not part of the main convoy at the time of the crash. Iorpev further explained that the accident occurred when the vehicle attempted to avoid an oncoming car, but ended up striking the motorcycle, leading to the fatality and injuries. He expressed regret over the incident but did not disclose further details about the casualties.
