by the United States to establish an AFRICOM base on its soil, reinforcing the country’s stance against foreign military presence.

Ribadu dismissed as “unfounded” the allegations made by Niger’s military leader, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, regarding foreign forces in Nigeria. He urged journalists and the public to investigate the areas in question and confirm that no foreign military presence exists.

“We do not have foreign soldiers in Nigeria. The Nigerian people know this, and no one, not even General Tchiani, can provide evidence of such an allegation,” Ribadu stated. He further pointed out that while Niger’s leadership may be dealing with internal disputes involving France, Nigeria’s relationship with France is rooted in economic cooperation, not military ties.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to peaceful relations with its neighbors, Ribadu stressed that Nigeria had no intentions of destabilizing Niger. He also rejected the idea that France was using Nigerian territory to launch attacks on Niger, calling it “implausible and baseless.”

While acknowledging that Niger may have its concerns with France, Ribadu urged its leadership to avoid severing ties with France, as this could lead to further complications. He also reminded Niger of Nigeria’s earlier warnings about hosting a U.S. base, a decision that Niger had later regretted.

Ribadu reiterated Nigeria’s stance of non-interference in Niger’s internal matters and encouraged both countries to work together for mutual stability and cooperation, emphasizing that shared prosperity was the key to long-term peace in the region.
