Dr Joshua Bawa, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Niger State, has promised a salary of N30,000 if elected governor in the 2023 general election.

According to him, his decision is in line with the minimum wage paid to civil servants in the country, and he emphasizes that the welfare of the people comes first.

Bawa pledged that, among other things, his government would focus on insecurity and the welfare of state residents.

He stated that if elected governor in 2023, his top priorities would be security, education, economic development, and a digitally connected economy (SEED).

Bawa told reporters in Minna, the state capital, yesterday that the security and welfare of the people is a constitutional requirement for any government to succeed.

He bemoaned the state of the education sector, stating that a random check revealed a lot of infrastructural decay in the system across schools in Niger State.

He started that “Security and welfare of Nigerlites is a constitutional requirement for any government to succeed and that’s one of the areas we want to look into, if you secure Niger State, if you secure our communities or rural areas, it means you can strive.

”If you take a random visit of primary schools in Minna, you will find out that some students are still studying under the trees, sitting on the bare floor, sitting on stones, or unroofed infrastructure that is unacceptable. That is one of the areas we want to immediately tackle when we come in.

“These are things bothering us as a state and as a people. All these are against the Child Right Act and any government that wants to provide that has to rejig the system to get the desired results.”

The Niger Labour Party governorship candidate also promised that his administration will provide an enabling environment for businesses such as Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMSE) to thrive in order to reduce the economic hardship being experienced.
