Tinubu Pays Emotional Tribute To Ogogo, Says His Death Is A Great Loss To Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of veteran Nollywood actor, filmmaker and screenwriter Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, following his death.

According to IREPOTERONLINE, the President’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu described Ogogo as a distinguished artiste whose decades-long career made significant contributions to the development of Yoruba-language theatre and the Nigerian film industry.

The President noted that the late actor’s unique style, commanding screen presence and commitment to his profession allowed him to entertain generations of Nigerians while showcasing the richness of Yoruba culture and the country’s diverse heritage.

He added that Ogogo’s body of work would remain an important part of Nigeria’s cultural history, stressing that his mentorship and influence on younger entertainers further demonstrated the lasting impact he made in the creative industry.

Tinubu said the late actor was a gifted storyteller who used his talent to promote Nigerian culture and entertain audiences both within the country and abroad.

He described Ogogo’s passing as a painful loss to his family, the Yoruba film industry, Nollywood and the wider Nigerian creative community.

The President extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased actor’s loved ones, colleagues, friends and millions of admirers, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and asking Almighty Allah to grant his family the strength to cope with the loss.

Tinubu also urged Nigerians and members of the creative industry to preserve Ogogo’s memory by continuing to promote the cultural values and artistic traditions to which he dedicated his life.

Before achieving fame in the entertainment industry, Ogogo reportedly worked as a mechanic with the Ogun State Water Corporation for about 13 years. He began his acting career in 1981 while combining it with his mechanic job and eventually left the profession in 1994 to focus fully on acting.

His career subsequently grew into one of the notable success stories in Yoruba-language entertainment, with his performances and contributions earning him recognition among generations of Nigerian movie lovers.
