The Super Falcons were eliminated from the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 4-2 penalty shootout loss to England’s Lionesses in Brisbane. Despite Nigeria having more opportunities throughout the game, England was reduced to 10 players after 87 minutes of play when the match ended 0-0 after extra time.
England faced challenges during the penalty shootout, but Nigeria couldn’t capitalize on their chances. England’s Beth England scored, while Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie missed, securing England’s victory when Chloe Kelly calmly converted.
Although the Lionesses were predicted to have a comfortable win against the 40th-ranked team globally, Nigeria has demonstrated in this World Cup that they can compete with any team. Their victory over hosts Australia in the group stage showcased their ability to score using their speed during transitions.
