‘Tinubu Will Light Up Every Nigerian Home’ – Power Minister Adelabu Assures

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making deliberate and strategic efforts to resolve longstanding challenges in the power sector, with a firm commitment to delivering stable electricity to every household and industry across the country.

Speaking with journalists on Friday shortly after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Agodi Prayer Ground in Ibadan, Adelabu described the recent improvements in power supply as only the beginning of what Nigerians should expect under the current administration.

“The little improvement you have seen is just a tip of the iceberg,” Adelabu said. “You will witness major progress in power supply very soon.”

The Minister emphasised that the Tinubu-led administration inherited deep structural issues within the power sector, which he said required significant groundwork before tangible results could be achieved.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day. For any solid infrastructure to stand, it must be built on a strong and reliable foundation. The power sector had serious foundational challenges, and we have been addressing those head-on,” he stated.

According to Adelabu, President Tinubu is resolute in his objective to ensure that electricity reaches all Nigerians, regardless of location. He noted that the President reiterated this commitment on Thursday during the commissioning of a power plant in Port Harcourt.

“President Tinubu’s major objective is to electrify every Nigerian home, business, institution, and industry. We are not relenting,” he added.

Adelabu, who assumed office in September 2023, expressed confidence that within the next year, the sector would record significant improvements that will revitalise industries, support small and medium enterprises, and enhance the quality of life for millions of Nigerians.

“What we are working towards is a future where no home is left in darkness. We are building the kind of power infrastructure that will restore productivity, foster economic growth, and bring comfort back to Nigerian households,” the Minister said.

His comments come amid growing public scrutiny of Nigeria’s persistent electricity challenges, with stakeholders calling for urgent and lasting reforms. The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Power, has repeatedly pledged to implement comprehensive policies aimed at boosting generation, transmission, and distribution capacity nationwide.

Adelabu’s assurance may signal renewed hope that the administration is prioritising energy as a key driver of development, with efforts now focused on sustainable and inclusive access to power across the country.
