According to Ireporter Online, Nigeria’s political landscape is gradually heating up ahead of future elections as key actors reposition themselves across party lines. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is fully prepared to challenge and defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the party as the only viable opposition with strong ideological and structural foundations.
In a related development, plans by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC have reportedly collapsed following disagreements over power-sharing arrangements. Negotiations broke down after the APC rejected a proposed formula that would have allowed the governor’s faction to retain majority control of party structures in the state, prompting the PDP camp to end talks while exploring alternative political alliances.
Meanwhile, former Gombe State Governor, Mohammad Danjuma Goje, has dismissed reports suggesting he has joined the ADC, describing a viral membership card as fake and reaffirming his loyalty to the APC. He emphasized his commitment to the party’s growth and expressed continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the next election cycle.
Amid rising political rhetoric, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode criticised the ADC, describing it in unflattering terms and questioning its capacity to pose a credible challenge in future elections. He maintained confidence in President Tinubu’s chances, insisting the opposition lacks the cohesion needed to succeed.
On economic matters, former presidential candidate Peter Obi has raised concerns over alleged revenue leakages, citing figures suggesting that a significant portion of national earnings remains unaccounted for. He warned that such gaps reflect deeper systemic issues in public finance management and called for urgent reforms to improve transparency and ensure funds are directed toward critical sectors like healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
In Kwara State, the APC has responded to renewed debate surrounding the 2018 Offa robbery case involving former Senate President Bukola Saraki, insisting the matter remains strictly a legal issue. The party dismissed claims of political persecution, urging all parties involved to allow the judiciary determine the case based on evidence rather than public sentiment.
Security concerns also persist as bandits reportedly abducted a traditional ruler, Oba Salman Aweda, alongside his wife and another individual during a midnight attack in Kwara State, triggering panic within the affected community. Local authorities have since launched coordinated rescue efforts involving security agencies and vigilante groups, while appealing for public cooperation.
Further highlighting insecurity challenges, political analyst Baba Yusuf warned of worsening conditions in parts of the country, alleging that bandits are increasingly gaining influence and exploiting weak governance structures. He cautioned that continued inaction could embolden criminal groups and further undermine national stability.
In the entertainment space, reality TV personality Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, revealed that she remains single due to not finding a suitable partner, emphasizing the importance of personal growth and avoiding unhealthy relationships. She also credited discipline, consistency, and upbringing for sustaining her relevance beyond reality television.
On the international sports scene, Arsenal FC has received a warning from UEFA over a delayed kick-off during a Champions League fixture, with the European football body urging stricter adherence to match protocols. The development comes amid criticism of manager Mikel Arteta by midfielder Jorginho, who questioned the team’s tactical approach.
