The accomplished rally driver was enjoying a leisurely walk with her partner, Simona Panzacchi, on Mount Libro Aperto in the Pizzo dei Sassi Bianchi area when the unfortunate incident occurred.

According to reports, Maroni slipped and fell off the mountain edge, colliding with trees and rocks during the fall. Her partner, Simona Panzacchi, immediately called emergency services, who airlifted Maroni to Maggiore hospital in Bologna.

Despite receiving treatment upon arrival at the hospital, Giulia Maroni succumbed to her injuries on the evening of Sunday, January 28. The mountain rescue station chief, Nicolas Barattini, expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “It was a tragic fatality; the woman [Maroni] placed her foot badly and slipped.”

Giulia Maroni’s untimely demise has left the motorsport community and her colleagues in shock. The 4X4 Magazine, where she collaborated as a correspondent and photographer, mourned her loss with a statement, saying, ‘The week starts with very bad news. An accident in the mountains took away Giulia Maroni, a passionate sportsman and off-roader, who had also collaborated with our magazine.
