Tragic Toll: 86 Niger Tanker Explosion Victims Finally Buried Amid Grief And Outrage

A tragic fuel tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State, has claimed 86 lives, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed.

According to NSEMA Director General Abdullahi Baba Arah, 80 victims were buried in a mass grave at Dikko Primary Health Care premises. Five others were handed over to their families for private burials, while one victim succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

The Explosion
The incident occurred when a tanker transporting fuel from Kaduna to Gwagwalada overturned at the junction, spilling its contents. Despite warnings to stay away, residents gathered to collect the fuel. Tragically, the tanker exploded, killing scores, injuring 55 others, and causing extensive property damage estimated in the millions.

Mass Burial and Relief Efforts
The mass burial was conducted by NSEMA in collaboration with Gurara local government officials and volunteers, continuing late into the night. Injured victims are receiving medical care as authorities assess the full extent of the tragedy.
