In a statement released by ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, Egbetokun extended sympathies to the victims and their families, emphasizing the tragic loss of over 73 lives and injuries to many others. Several shops and properties were also destroyed in the inferno caused by a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) that lost control and caught fire.

Safety Measures Intensified
The IGP stressed the critical need for adherence to road safety protocols and regulations to prevent such catastrophic incidents. He directed all State Police Commissioners to strengthen their Motor Traffic Divisions (MTDs) in collaboration with traffic management agencies, ensuring strict compliance with traffic laws on highways.

Egbetokun also urged vehicle owners and drivers to prioritize roadworthiness and abide by safety rules to avoid future tragedies.

Call for Responsibility
While praying for the souls of the departed, the IGP called on stakeholders, including transport operators and the general public, to embrace safety and responsibility. He emphasized that collective action is essential to prevent similar incidents in the future.
