Troops Nab Suspected ISWAP Operative In Borno

According to Ireporter Online, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended a suspected operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in connection with an alleged plan to launch coordinated attacks on two military formations in Borno State.

The suspect, identified as Muhammad Shuaibu, was reportedly arrested by personnel of the 212 Battalion at the Forward Operating Base in Chabbol during a routine perimeter patrol. Military sources disclosed that the arrest followed actionable intelligence indicating a planned terrorist strike in the area.

A counter-insurgency platform focused on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, reported that the suspect was intercepted about 500 metres from an anti-vehicle trench protecting the base. The report added that credible human intelligence played a key role in the operation.

Preliminary investigations allegedly linked Shuaibu to a planned attack targeting the 199 Special Forces Battalion, also known as Mosquito Camp, as well as the Forward Operating Base in Chabbol. During interrogation, military sources claimed the suspect admitted knowledge of the planned assault, stating that the attackers intended to proceed with the operation despite his arrest.

Security officials noted that the development enabled troops to immediately strengthen defensive positions around the targeted facilities and enhance overall security measures to prevent any attempted breach.

Shuaibu has since been transferred to the 7 Military Intelligence Brigade for further interrogation as part of ongoing investigations.

Authorities say the arrest forms part of sustained intelligence-led operations under Operation Hadin Kai aimed at disrupting terrorist networks and improving security across Nigeria’s North-East region.
