Tunji Disu Steps In As Acting IGP, Replacing Egbetokun (Photos)

According to Ireporter Online, Acting Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Ridwan Disu assumed office on Wednesday as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police. He succeeds Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who served as the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police from June 19, 2023, to February 24, 2026.

Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island Local Government Area, Lagos State, Ag. IGP Disu brings decades of operational, investigative, intelligence, and administrative experience to the nation’s top police office. His educational background includes an MSC in Entrepreneurship from the National Open University of Nigeria (2023); an MSC in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University (2022); an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Intelligence from the University of Lagos (2019); an MSC in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University (2010); a PGD in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University (2000); and a BA in English Education from Lagos State University (1990).

Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992. Prior to his appointment, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos. His distinguished career includes postings as AIG of the Special Protection Unit at Force Headquarters, Abuja; Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State; head of Administration and Intelligence at the Force Intelligence Bureau; Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos; and Officer in Charge of Anti-Kidnapping and Special Anti-Robbery Squads across multiple states.

He has also served as Directing Staff at the Nigerian Police Academy, ADC to a former Lagos State Governor, and led the first Nigerian Police contingent to the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) in 2005. Disu is a member of the International Academy of Forensics, the National Association of Investigative Specialists (USA), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

An accomplished sportsman, he holds a third-degree black belt in Judo, has served as National Chairman of the Nigeria Police Judo Association, and won a silver medal at the 2022 US Open Judo Championships.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, expressed gratitude to outgoing IGP Egbetokun for his contributions to modernizing and strengthening the police force. He added that Acting IGP Disu is committed to consolidating existing reforms, enhancing internal security, strengthening community partnerships, and advancing the Force’s mandate to protect lives and property according to global best practices.
