Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has firmly debunked allegations made by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is marginalising the North in road infrastructure development.

He described Kwankwaso’s claims as misleading, baseless, and politically motivated.

These include the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway (175 km, South); Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway (378 km, North); Trans-Sahara Road in Ebonyi (118 km, South); and the redesigned Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Road (North).

Providing further clarity, Umahi noted that current infrastructure investments are split with the North receiving 52% and the South 48%—a clear indication of balance and national inclusion.

He listed other significant projects in the North such as the Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna Road (275 km dualised at ₦824 billion), Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road (350 km dualised at ₦764 billion), and several others across Borno, Kebbi, Benue, and Kogi states.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, Umahi also highlighted ongoing developments in the South, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos-Sagamu–Oyo-Ogbomoso-Ilorin Road, and maintenance work on key Lagos bridges such as the Carter, Eko, and Third Mainland bridges.
