Rivers State residents took to the streets of Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Friday to protest the Federal Government’s monetary policy and the scarcity of naira notes.

The popular and busy Mile three market along Ikwerre road in Port Harcourt City Loca Government Area served as the epicenter.

The protest quickly turned violent, as hoodlums who are always present in the market area took advantage of the opportunity to forcefully evict people from their property.

Shops were also robbed, and car windshields on the streets were smashed.

The hoodlums were also said to have injured passers-by and drivers.

The heinous incident has halted commercial activity in the once-bustling area, with shops now closed and the road deserted due to fears that the protest will erupt into a riot.
